The 5-mm Rule

Set implant platform depth from the gingiva, not from a habit. Gingival height plus platform depth equals 5 mm, so a 5 mm healing abutment finishes level with the tissue.

Free. Delivered as a short course inside Whop.

What is inside

One rule, one table, one worked case.

  • The rule in one line. Measure the gingival height at the site, then submerge the platform so that platform to gingival margin is 5 mm. One millimetre of gingiva means the platform sits 4 mm below the crest. Two millimetres of gingiva means 3 mm.
  • The depth table. The full range written out, with the healing abutment height it targets, so the decision is made during planning and not with the drill in your hand.
  • Where the rule holds and where it does not. The anatomy and restorative situations that break the rule, and what you check on the CBCT before you apply it.
  • What to do next. How the depth decision sits inside a prosthetically driven planning sequence, from the planned crown back to the drill sequence.
